Ancient Inuit hunters harvest a humpback whale from a two-person kayak called a bidarka, using traditional techniques. Several harpoons were used to bring down the whale while multiple sealskin floats prevented the whale carcass from sinking to the ocean floor.
This scene is hand-carved from the fossilized lower jawbone of a walrus. It features a mammoth ivory-tipped harpoon.
It measures approximately 10” long x 8” wide x 4” high.
